We were up early this morning as Isobel had to go for her MMR. There was a lot of uncertainty around the jab when she was a baby and I read up as much as I could about it. Right or wrong I decided not to let her have it. I know the doctor who caused the uncertainty has since been discredited but I stood my decision as I thought that giving a tiny baby three diseases to tackle was too much. She is 14 now and fit and healthy so I do not have the same feeling about it.
Anyway I digress. We decided we were going to go somewhere, anywhere, today. We set off and drove through Halifax and Ripponden and then I had the idea to go to Chester. So we joined the motorway and was soon on the outskirts of Chester. A park and ride was going to be the best idea as I didn't fancy trying to find a parking area and knew that it wouldn't be cheap anyway.
The park and ride was located next to Chester Zoo and was very cheap at £1.70 for me and free for Isobel. Even better was that a man had bought two tickets in error and sold me his spare for £1!
We were soon in Chester and we walked to the end of the first street with a few intermissions into charity shops. Then we got onto one of the main shopping streets. The shoes I had on were flat but were cutting across my foot. A wander into Lush meant we came out nearly £20 worse off but had had some interesting demos. We eventually got to the end of the parade of shops where there was a Primark. During a little trip around there I found some more comfy shoes for only £4. Crossing the road we went to Pizza Hut for our lunch.
Isobel then stuffed her self and ended up what we in Yorkshire call 'pogged' or full to bursting. I was a bit more disciplined and ate just enough to satisfy my appetite without going over the top.
The we walked some more as I now had comfy shoes on my feet! There are a lot of interesting smaller boutiques so I had to keep Isobel out of the multis that she could visit anywhere.
I was pleasantly surprised by the place as I found more places than I have ever done before. We headed back to the bus stop and got back to the car in 30 degree heat. The drive back home was peppered with slow traffic but we didn't do too badly at all.
We arrived home at 6.30pm ish. I got changed and then we went to the canoe club at the pool. So my final bit of exercise was 1.5 hours of paddling up and down the pool.
I am no natural athlete and I am size 16 and 57 years old. In 2018 I did my first cycle Sportive and then did another and another. I'm still not good at anything but I am still trying.

Lent day 3
Well I haven't succumbed to the sweets and chocolate yet so that's good.
Yesterday I did a lot of nothing in particular (domestic stuff) until evening time then I went canoeing. In the pool you understand not outside. It was fairly busy but the instructors put slalom gates up so that we could practice turns and then moved them every so often to give us a different perspective. We paddled quite fast and furiously for quite a lot of the time continually going through the slalom gates and then turning and heading back to the other end of the pool.
I could really feel the tops of my arms aching when I had done (it will help to avoid the bingo wings anyway). Could also feel it in my tummy muscles. So 1.5 hours of fairly strenuous activity done today.

Day Seven. A Whole Week of Exercise
Well a whole seven days have passed and I've managed to do at least one activity every day.
This afternoon was spent with my partner Peter getting to and from the hospital for his CT scan on his eyes. It snowed quite heavily today so of course all normal rules of the road seem to go out of the window and consequently traffic came to a virtual standstill. Luckily I knew a few back roads to get to the hospital so I used them. The first one I tried there was a lorry stuck up it so a quick three point turn and another few streets and I tried again. We got there in the end.
Anyway that has nothing to do with my chosen exercise today. This evening was canoeing club night. No I am not some extreme nutter who goes canoeing outside in the dark in winter. It is done at a local pool. We are pretty much left to our own devices usually but often a game of canoe football takes place and a lot of cheating goes on.
Anyway nothing fancy tonight but plenty of paddling up and down the pool at speed and atempting turns and high braces which have again left my upper arms aching.

Octoberthon Results
Well as I said previously i felt my resolve was weakening a bit and I was right. I did well right up to 28th October when Isobel made a cake for Erin's birthday the next day. I didn't hav any of the cake but I did have some of the mixture before it was cooked and I did nick a few of the chocolate buttons that were being used to decorate it.
I forgot to say the previous week I had put a pound ON despite denying all the goodies at the Derby comp day and being good when we went out for a meal from work. Oh well!
Last Friday we went to a Halloween inspired event at Bolling Hall called Dark Gatherings. It's a fun evening that is free in an old haunted manor house not far from us. We have been for the last few years. It wasn't as good this year as Health and Safety seem to have killed the atmosphere. There were too many lights on around the place so you could see the scary bits before you got there. Isobel dressed up as a gorgeous Goth. All in black with a white face and she did her own makeup and hair and she looked really good.
Isobel as a Goth
Me and my Goth
Sunday was the day we put the clocks back but at 1.45am I got a phone call from my stepson Simon asking if I could pick him up from the next town. I agreed so was out about an hour then went to bed. I was up again at 6.30am and took the dogs for a walk even though it was dark when we set off.
Then about 9.30am we met up with members of the canoe club and we went and did the River Calder. The worst thing about this river is the rubbish. The water had obviously been much much higher at times and the rubbish and debris was hanging from the trees. There was literally, bed sheets, tents, clothes, toys and loads of plastic bags hanging like some macabre Halloween decorations from the trees.
At the start of the paddle

Other parts of the river didn't seem too bad and were quite pretty. It was the first time that I didn't feel nervous before we went down the weirs and I even did the slalom bit in Sowerby Bridge which previously I have got out and avoided.
One of the weirs
A pretty view of the Calder
Anyway the net result of the Octoberthon was that I gained another pound in the fourth week but altogether I had lost 6lbs in the month. Which, as you will aprreciate, is nearly half a stone. Result!

Jane Tomlinson - Leeds 10k Run For All
Saturday 26th June
I've missed a week and can't remember everything I have done in that time.
Not really a testing time today except of nerves. There was an event in a local park called Cyclefest and I volunteered to help out with the Disabled Cycling Club. However three days before I got an email from Richard who did the German cycle ride with me. He was going in fancy dress as Daddy Bear and using one of the cycles from the cycling club to tow Mummy and Baby Bear (who were teddies by the way) but he wanted a Goldilocks. Yours truly stepped up to the mark.
Short white broderie anglaise dress bought and dyed bright yellow. Long blonde wig with an oversized yellow bow on top. White pumps and white ankle socks. Got some funny looks as I stepped out of the van in the park!
Francine and Malcolm dressed in their Christmas outfits and Richard and I dressed in our ensemble then left the park on our bikes and cycled into town. Two drunks sat on a wall wondered what was in their drink, thank goodness we weren't pink elephants!
We met up with lots of other cyclists in Centenary Square none of whom were in fancy dress but plenty of familiar faces. We then had a Police escort on bikes out of town and back up to the park.. There must have been 40 to 50 of us altogether.
We travelled slowly for the benefit of the less abled and children. So I was waving my wooden spoon at people on buses and shouting 'morning, have you had your porridge?' to anyone we passed. There were a lot of smiles around even in the traffic queues.
We cycled back into the park where lots of stalls were now in evidence and the Cyclefest began. What a great day!

When I left there I came home got myself sorted out, picked up the dogs and went up to Sleningford to join Peter and Isobel (and Isobel's friend , Leah) for the family weekend with the canoe club.
Sunday 27th June
Got up and had a fairly easy morning. The girls were up and in the water pretty early and out again before we got in. We hadn't taken a canoe up as there wasn't much water in the river and Peter's back has been really off again. We did take an inflatable dinghy though so we messed about in that. Some of the club did come down from The Hole to the bottom of the campsite but it wasn't easy as there was more rocks than water.
We went up to the hole with the dinghy but both of us in it made it too heavy and every rock could be felt through the bottom of the boat. Peter did The Hole and I walked down the side of the river which is harder than you think. Further down I took the boat over the last couple of little weirs but bruised my shins on the rocks.
We stayed on the campsite until about 3ish as we knew England was playing in the World Cup so the roads would be quiet! (They lost to Germany 4-1, silly buggers).
Thursday 1st July
Was up early and took the dogs out for a walk at about 6.30am. It's nice at that time as there aren't many people and, more importantly, very few dogs about.
At lunchtime I went swimming and managed 72 lengths (1.5 miles) in 61 minutes. Not bad for a person who does breast stroke and not crawl. I am thinking of doing some lessons to learn to crawl poroperly though.
Evening I went circuit training and took Liz a cycle helmet, drinks bottle and puncture repair outfit that I had blagged from the Cyclefest. She was chuffed to bits.
Friday 2nd July
This morning I had arranged to go cycling with Liz. Went over to her house as she is close to the Leeds Liverpool canal. We joined the canal at Crossflatts, Bingley and set off gently. She complained her backside was aching. I thought the seat was way too low but my allen keys didn't fit. We stopped off at Ellis Briggs cycle shop which is right alongside the canal. He raised it for her and then I he said the seat wasn't suitable for her as it was a man's seat. I suggested she looked at what was on offer and she found one she liked and bought it and got it fitted.
We carried on down the canalside spotting ducks with ducklings, a family of swans and some geese and their goslings. There was also a cheeky squirrel on the towpath.
We got to just under the 7 mile mark and to another set of locks so we decided to use that as a marker and a turnaround point. Liz seemed to be enjoying herself although she did tend to go really slow or speed up and brag that she was ahead of me!
We got back to Liz's house a tad under 14 miles after having to negotiate our way around a family of swans whose dad was a little aggressive and protective. So we cycled round the block to make it 14.1 miles in total.
Saturday 3rd July
Was up early again and out with the dogs. After the usual playing on the moor to get rid of some of their excess energy we carried on for a proper walk. Across fields they both raced after the bunnies. They would come back to check I was still about then chase more bunnies. Thankfully neither of them are fast enough to catch them but it does give them some good exercise. We were out about 1.5 hours in all. The dogs were shattered for the rest of the day.
Isobel is away at Guide camo so Peter and I weren't sure what we were going to do today but he suggested we look at an event called Cliffhanger that was advertised on the radio. We decided to go to Sheffield to this.
First thing we saw as we arrived was Robin Hood Water Sports and someone we knew from the canoe club. After a short chat we set off round the events. There was a bouldering competition (climbing without ropes) going on and various cycling exhibitions. Lots of stalls and some fun stuff like having a go at learning to ride a unicycle and zip wires. We enjoyed the event.
Then we had a wander around Decathlon (a very big and comprehensive sports shop) and I bought a very bright yellow cycling type top in the biggest size possible. Good day.
Sunday 4th July
Up early again (this is getting to be a habit) and out for a walk with the dogs by 6.30am. Cooler and more overcast today thankfully as I am doing the Jane Tomlinson 10k run today in Leeds.
Got there on time and we were soon herded round to the start. Grabbed a bottle of Gatorade to help me along the way. Couldn't hear what was being said on the tannoys and stage so had a chat to a lady who was also on her own. Then things started moving and we were off.
Set off steadily and ran for the first 15 minutes. Then moved to doing what I had planned r3/w1. This seemed to work well and although it was warm I didn't feel too bad. Just before the halfway point I saw a girl holding her arm and bending forward, she went straight to the first aider. Hope she was okay.
Just after the turnaround point there was another Gatorade station but I don't know why they give it to you in cups here. How can you carry on running and drink the darned stuff. I poured mine into my empty bottle and carried on. The r/w was working well for me until the last 2k. Then it started getting a bit muddled so I tried r2/w1, r2/w2 and r1/w1 until i knew I was on the downward home straight. I still didn't feel too bad. Right in front of me nearly at the finish was a blind runner roped to a sighted runner. Unfortunately he tripped on the finish mat and fell quite heavily right in front of me. If I'd been any closer I would have gone over them.
Anyway my finish was 1.14.05 which is about six minutes faster than last year.

A bit of canoeing
What a glorious da it has been today. The sun has been shining and I have been making scarcrows. It is our village's annual scarecrow festival starting tomorrow. Well our village and the next village do it.
Our scarecrows this year are going to be a Morris Dancer and Little Miss Muffet along with a spider.
Morris Dancer
Not the best picture but this is Little Miss Muffet and the spider is hanging from the tree above
Anyway this evening we had to go canoeing as we had to take the club's boat back with us. It was fairly quiet at the pool so we had a good paddle really. Nothing exciting happened except the staff wouldn't let us raft up and play the game where one of the younger kids walks along the whole raft of boats. Health and safety!

Juneathon
Monday 31st May - Bank Holiday
We got up reasonably early to go canoeing up at Sleningford in North Yorkshire. There hadn't been much rain and the water levels were never going to be high.
Isobel's friend, Leah, came with us. We kitted her out in all the gear but we only took two boats with us, Peters and the one I have borrowed from the club.
When we got up to Sleningford it was fairly busy but as anticipated the water levels were low. We burbled around at the bottom end to begin with and then dragged the boats further up and came through the 'rapids' back to the bottom part. Isobel and Leah were mainly playing in the water or sitting on the rocks and sliding down with the tide.
We got out and let the girls get in out boats. Leah was a little bit apprehensive but did really well and soon lost her fear. They both took the boats further up and came down the last bit of the rapids and the only problem they had was getting stuck on the rocks due to the shallow water.

The girls were getting cold so decided to call it a day and went to get dressed. However Peter and I dragged our boats up to the hole. Looking at it for a while I decided not to do it because the water was too low and, being heavy, I was more likely to get stuck on the rocks. Peter managed it after getting stuck. I re-launched at the bottom of the hole and we both travelled back down to the bottom, flat part of the river and we then decided we were hungry and thirsty and we got out as well.
Tuesday 1st June
I had intended atarting the Juneathon but went into a downward spiral quite early on in the day. I had an argument with Isobel about money. It was her 13th birthday recently and she had £85 in total after buying a memory card for her camera. She has bought a few items but I was shocked to find that she only had £20 left as most of it has been frittered away.
Unusually for me I couldn't shake the negative feelings off all day and even a nice little wander around the charity shops in Cleckheaton didn't help. Consequently I ate some rubbish today and then slept on the sofa which annoys Peter intensely.
Wednesday 2nd June
Ok so today is the real start of my Juneathon. The Juneathon is meant as doing some form of activity everyday all month. It doesn't have to be major as long as you do something.
I woke up at 5.30am and wasn't sure whether to run or take the dogs for a walk first. I decided to run. Instead of going elsewhere I set off from home and ran to the top of our road and along Tong St to Dudley Hill. I am amazed at how many people are out and about at 6am. There was a steady flow of traffic and plenty of pedestrians about. I did 39 minutes of run 2, walk 1 and then walked for about 4 minutes home.
A quick change of clothes and I then took the dogs out for a walk. We walked down the moors, where they had a short run about after a stone but someone else came on the moor with a dog so I had to put Bear back on the lead. He is a bad boy where other dogs are concerned. We came out onto Station Lane and past Birkenshaw first school. Up the snicket and round an estate and we eventually come back up to the moors. Back up the moors and we were back home again.
All this before 7.30am! Therefore I am back on track for the Juneathon.

All this before 7.30am! Therefore I am back on track for the Juneathon.

Starting again
Sunday 16th May
Didn't feel too bad on the day I came back from the cycle ride. So we were up early next day, with canoes firmly attached to the roof of the car, we headed towards York, Nether Poppleton actually.
We were actually a little bit late but met up with the rest of them as they were taking the cars to the other end. Once they returned we all launched onto the river.
It was a nice morning with a slight breeze and a threat of rain eventually. We had a nice steady paddle down the river. There were about 20 of us all told.
When we got into the town centre we pulled out of the river for a lunch break and a drink.
With everyone satiated we then put back onto the river and continued down stream. We had a slight shower but nothing much.
Eventually we got out at the boat club landing. It was warm thankfully so we didn't freeze while we waited for Pater to go and get our car from where we started. In fact we sat and had a nice chat with a few girls from the club.
Thursday 20th May
Had to go into work today for a training session so missed my swimming. However I went to circuit training this evening.
Monday 24th May
At long last I went back to Tong Baths to do my swimming intervals. Got there a bit late as I was waiting for Peter to sort himself out. However I did manage 64 lengths (a mile)in 40 minutes so quite chuffed with that.
Thursday 27th May
Got up in good time and took Isobel to school. Evie came with us in the car as we were going running this morning. Haven't been for ages but was ready for it this morning and it's not many weeks now until the Jane Tomlinson run in Leeds. We went straight down to the Spen Valley Greenway and I did 39 minutes of run 2/walk 1 and I honestly didn't find it too hard at all. Finished it off with 6 minutes cool down walk. Evie was shatterd as she had already had a walk with Peter and Bear.
Lunchtime and I went swimming at Spenborough pool. It's been a few weeks since I came here as well. I was late getting there today and then I saw my friend Claire filling her sweetie machines so I had to have a quick chat.
I did 36 lengths in 29 minutes so pretty pleased with that as it is three quarters of a mile. Claire was still there when I came out so we had another chat.
Evening came and off I went to circuit training. Jeanette was there tonight. I haven't seen her for a few weeks. Im fact there were eight of us there tonight. Felt like I did a good workout.
So that was a busy day.

A mixture of movement
Part of the assault course.
On Tuesday we had a team building session at Nell Bank in Ilkley. It was all day but what great fun it was.
The day started with finding someone you didn't know, preferably. We had to work in pairs with one person blindfolded, the other had to guide them around and over a bench. Then we had to swap over and do the same again. After that we had to find a new partner and guide them around a childrens adventure playground and then end up coming down the slide together. A changeover meant I was lead under and over a few obstacles and then had to walk a narrow beam with a step in it.
Next we did a bit of orienteering. This time it was as a bigger team, seven of us in my team. We had to find 12 numbered discs around the grounds. Quite a bit of running back and forth was involved here. Our team won this one.
Then we had lunch (lasagne and cheesecake to follow in my case). Then we had to go and save the Nellbanian frog and duck. This consisted of using planks of wood as skis and working as a team to move the skis. Then we had to do various other mindbending and physical tricks. Lastly we had to get the whole team around an assault course along with a rubber chicken, a plastic baguette and a tray of water. We had to try not to spill the water. The person with the goodies could not move their legs so we had to work out how to transport ourselves and the goodies around the course. We were the first to finish and out of six groups we had the third most amount of water at the end of the course.
We had a great day and i wish we could do it all again.
Wednesday I went to aquarobics at Richard Dunn's Sports centre. Thirteen of us turned up for this session. I hadn't been for a few weeks for one reason or another so made the most of this one. I still get annoyed when the older ladies use the foam 'weights but swing them around in the air rather than under the water! I followed it up with 30 lengths in 20 minutes.
Yesterday I went out for a ride on my bike. Decided to go to Castleford Outlet centre. It was a gorgeous day so my poor little leggies had to endure the great outdoors in shorts again. I set off just after 10 am and the roads were fairly quiet. I soon got to Country Baskets where you are suddenly at the top of a steep winding road......weeeeeeeeeeee........only trouble is on the return journey it is all uphill!
I remembered the route from two years ago so was pleased with myself on that but also remembered that there are a lot of downhills on the way there so the return is going to be harder.
I got to Castleford in 1 hour 11 minutes.
I had a wander around the outlet centre and bought a purple wrapover fleece top for £6.49 and a bra and brief set for £8, bargain! Then I went to Thorntons cafe and had a cappucino and a scone. Then sorted myself out for the uphilly return.
I am pleased to say I managed it up all the hills without stopping although a couple did try their best to stop me. There is one that I never got up when I was training the last time but managed it on the return from Hull on the very last day of the ride. I managed it again yesterday.
A FITTING TRIBUTE TO AN EX-COLLIERY VILLAGE
I did the return journey in 1 hour 47 minutes. 12 mph average for the whole trip.
Last night I did my usual circuit training class but Amanda (one of our partners in the other houses) came with me. She is like a whirling dervish. She puts everything into her exercise. At the end of the session she said she had really enjoyed it and would be returning again.
Today I had to go into Keighley for a photo session with one of the vans we are going to be using for the trip. Richard, Woody and myself turned up as riders, John Coulton and Carla as support drivers.
Finally this evening we went canoeing. We took back the borrowed canoe. Mike was the only instructor there but it was fairly quiet anyway. Had a reasoanbly good session and I was tutored in scullying. Still haven't mastered it but nearly there.

Canoeing down the River Ure
I'm getting later and later at posting about my activities!
Last Sunday we got up before it was decent to on a Sunday really. Isobel (my daughter) and I needed to get our gear sorted for the canoe trip. We always try to get things sorted the night before but then remember something in the morning that can never be found. On this occasion it was kayaking gloves. Searched high and low and I decided to take my cycling gloves in the end.

It was an absolutely beautiful day, cold but clear and sunny. I drove up to Ripon as fast as I dare and only just this side of legal speedwise. Amazingly we got there dead on time. After a bit of discussion we travelled up to the starting point in Andy's car while Peter waited for the drivers to return and bring them up to the start as well.
As the weather was gorgeous there was a big turnout, so we split into groups of 4 or 5. In my group the leader was Adrian. Then there was Peter (Stephen's dad) and Richard who used to come to the pool. All are much better than I am at canoeing. Isobel was in a different group to me by choice.
The first weir is only a very short distance from the start so we were soon down that. Then we had a play at ferry-gliding. I didn't do too badly. A few more weirs and bubbly water later and we had ferry-glided a fair few times. It was nice to just chat to others and we kept meeting up with the other groups. Isobel was doing really well as she wasn't squawking and complaining for a change.
Eventually we got to a point where we all got out and stretched our legs. A cup of hot chocolate and some min choc digestives went down really well here.
We launched back onto the river and carried on down getting stuck on rocks a few times as the water was really shallow. We soon passed under the bridge at West Tanfield which is a beautiful area with a picturesque church and an old Pele tower.
Very soon we reached 'THE WEIR'. The first few times I went down this river I was very nervous and we got out before 'THE WEIR'. However last time down I went down it and didn't think it was too bad at all. Isobel was adamant she wasn't going down 'THE WEIR'
As she was in a group that was ahead of me I was surprised to see her non-chalantly go over the top of 'THE WEIR'. When I got down it I parked up alongside her and we had a chat. She said "I'm not going down 'THE WEIR'" I said "you just have" to which she replied "no, I mean 'THE BIG WEIR'". So again I told her she just had. Then it dawned on her that this was 'THE WEIR' and she had done it woithout a second thought.
We continued along the river to the top of the campsite. I thought it was prudent to quit while I was winning. So quite a few got out here. Adrian said he thought I would be fine doing the campsite bit but didn't push me to do it.
As we were putting the canoes on the car the others came back up from the bottom of the campsite. I learned that Chris, who is one of the more experienced paddlers, had been caught out just above the Hole and was fairly battered. I'm glad I stopped when I did!

A bumpy solo ride.
Needed to do a solo long ride yesterday as I wasn't able to join the group training ride today. After some debating with myself and looking at maps I couldn't make up my mind where to go and nearly decided not to bother. Thankfully the voice of reason aka Peter, my partner, suggested a route and encouraged me to go.
I set off in bright sunshine and cycled from home up to Shelf. First obstacle was Pepper Hill a very steep and twisty road. Sadly I didn't make it up there. I had to get off, get my breath and get a drink. HAving pushed the bike to the top of this first hill I climbed back on and pedalled the flat bit until I got to the second climb. Amazed myself by getting up this one without getting off.
Got on the Brighouse and Denholme Road up to the Queensbury traffic lights where I got stuck in traffic. I walked across the lights and was climbed aboard once more. Having negotiated the rise to the highest point in Bradford it was a pleasure to have a drop past The Raggalds Inn and down to the lights at Thornton Road where a sharp left took me up to Denholme Gate lights and then a delightful whizz down into Denholme village.
A bit of a climb out of the village and I was out into more open country. Past The Flappits and then a long downward ride into Keighley. Only problem going downhill at speed is that you don't have time to inspect the potholes and get out of the way of them. Ouch! Encountered a few stupid drivers along the way but on the whole most were patient.
I left Keighley and headed up to Steeton. There were some climbs but not as bad as my memory tried to tell me. Then it was more downhill into Eastburn and joined the end of the bypass and headed for Skipton. The last mile or so into Skipton seemed quite a hard one despite there not being any real hills. It just seemed to go on forever.
When I got into the town centre I decided to park the bike up near the church and castle. Chained it to some railings and went for a pleasant wander around the market. Bought some jelly babies and then went to my fave cafe and got a scone and a hot chocolate with marshmallows.

A quick phonecall with Peter and the decision was made that he would pick me up at Keighley. I set off back and took the road past the bottom of Bradley and re-joined the bypass. A fast flat road got me to Keighley quicker than expected despite a few potholes that tried to slow me down or stop me altogether.
Another phone call to establish where Peter was and I found he was some way off so we agreed that I would take the Riddlesden road and meet somewhere along there. So I set off again. A good pace and I was soon up the hill and on the level again. The villages flew past, Riddlesden, East Morton, Crossflatts and I was nearly in Bingley. Through the town centre and another phone call to Peter clarified that he wasn't too far off. We arranged to meet in the car park.
Got into the car park and I nearly fell of the bike as I caught my foot in the pedal. Blow me if the chain didn't come off. Thank goodness that didn't happen earlier. So that was 43 miles done and dusted.
Peter picked me up and I got home, had a shower, an hour or so on the computer and then I got ready to go canoeing. Not quite as busy this week but still nearly capacity. Did quite a bit of paddling up and down and then Mike asked me what I was tring to do. I wasn't actually tring to do anything in particular just tipping the canoe at an angle. So we went through high brace. I did this so many times that my arms ached.
I think I had quite a good workout today.

A bit of canoeing and running
Last night I went canoeing for the first time in a few weeks. Almost wish I hadn't bothered.
Don't get me wrong I have nothing against kids and actively encourage them to go do activities rather than sitting at home in front of their electronic games. However last night there was a whole load of young lads especially from the scouts. Both of our instructors are connected with the scouts so they have opened up our club sessions to them.
The problem is our pool where we practice is very small and we are only allowed 155 boats on at a time. This means that if these lads get in the pool they often are messing about, talking or sinking their canoes. I know this can be fun but it means that those of us who aren't in the water are just wasting our time. Isobel was with me last night and when I realised she was just talking and messing around I asked her to get out so that someone else could have a turn. Anyway rant over.

Managed to get some paddling in. Also did a bit of high brace practice and helped someone do some T rescues. Then we actually did something a bit different. We did some side scullying to a partner in the middle of the pool and back again. Then our side had to get out of the pool and stand on the side. The people on the other side had to paddle to the middle and capsize, then we had to jump in and rescue them. After that the tables were turned and I was really dreading it as I have only just got over my phobia of capsizing. I was pleased with myself as I decided I was going to do it and did!
Just before I got out I tried someone's nose clip and I think that might just work for me. Saves me holding my nose.
This morning I got up early and drove down to the Greenway with Evie. It was cold. We managed to do 30 minutes of R2/W1. I struggled a bit on the outward journey and I passed a youngish guy towards the turning point of my run. When I stopped at the third bridge to do some stretches I noticed this guy had stopped some way down the track and appeared to be having a pee. He was stopped for quite some time and even when he set off again he appeared to be 're-adjusting' himself as he walked along. I don't know why but I got the distinct impression that as I passed him he was going to flash at me. Thankfully he didn't.
